Car Insurance Question  I have liability on my Jeep and full coverage on my wife's Pathfinder. While backing out of our drive way she backed into my Jeep. Damage was done to both vehicles. My question is will the Pathfinder's full coverage cover both vehicles since I only have liability on the Jeep??

It will depend upon the terms of your auto insurance policy, as well as state laws, to determine if the Pathfinder's insurance will cover both vehicles or not. If it did then the Pathfinder's damage would be claimed through its collision coverage while the Jeep's damage would be claimed against the property damage liability of the Pathfinder.

Property Damage liability coverage usually covers you if your car damages someone else's property though. Usually it is their car, but it could be a fence, a house or any other property damaged in an accident.

If you damage your own property then your auto liability insurance may not pay out if there is exclusion in your policy. The exclusion that can be involved here is referred to as a household exclusion.

With this exclusion clause the mandatory liability coverage on your vehicles protects members of your household against claims brought by people who are NOT part of the household and thus would not allow you to place a claim for your Jeep against the Pathfinder's liability policy since you are both members of the same household. Read your policy terms and speak with your insurance agent to see what claims can be placed for each vehicle so that the damages can be repaired.
