OUIL stands for operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor and now has been renamed as OWI meaning operating while intoxicated.
An OWI in Michigan is a misdemeanor unless charged as a third offense within 10 years, in which case it's a felony. A first time OWI has penalties of one or more of the following:
- Up to 93 days in jail
- $300 fine
- Up to 360 hours of community service
- 90-day license restriction
- 180-day restriction for Operating While Impaired by Drugs
- Four points on the driving record
- Court may immobilize vehicle for up to 180 days
Now that you are living in Georgia an insurance company can still access your MI driving record so you will need to mention this old conviction if asked for violations dating this far back on your insurance application. If you do not and the insurance company finds out about this under the influence conviction then your quote would be incorrect and need to be recalculated including this offense. If you have already received your insurance policy and this violation is later found out about then it could be said that you misrepresented your driving record which may be considered fraud in some states.
