Michigan is not a member of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) while your home state of California is. This Compact requires member states to exchange information regarding tickets received out of state back to the state in which the motorist was licensed.
Even though Michigan is not a member of the DLC it appears their Department of State (DMV) will still share and exchange information with other state's courts and Department of Motor Vehicles regarding traffic violations.
Speeding over 10 mph over the limit is normally a 2 point offense in Michigan but according to the California points listing it is only 1 point for an out of state speeding violation.
In California, you need to have traffic school approved by the clerk of the court or another judicial official in the country which your ticket was received. Since your ticket did not go through a CA court due to being from out of state, it would not appear that you could take a driving course to remove or keep this Michigan ticket or points from being placed on your California driver's license.
You may see if it is possible to take a Michigan traffic school to keep the ticket from being reported to California and thus keep it off your CA record and keep points from being assessed. To see if this is possible try calling the clerk of the court, their number is usually the one listed on a citation.
If you are unable to keep the speeding ticket off of your California driving record then your insurance company will see it the next time they pull your motor vehicle record (MVR). At that time it will be up to your insurance company's rating system if your rates will be affect by this out of state traffic ticket.
