In South Carolina there is established a point system for the evaluation of the operating record of persons to whom a license to operate motor vehicles has been granted and for the determination of the continuing qualifications of these persons for the privileges granted by the license to operate motor vehicles.
The system has a graduated scale of points assigning relative values to the various violations. Being convicted of a speeding citation for more than 10 m.p.h. but less than 25 m.p.h. above the posted limits results in 4 points being placed on your driver's license.
Now the ticket should have been written to your boyfriend since he was the one driving (and speeding). If this is the case then the points and violation should go on his driving record. Once the conviction for the speeding citation is on his driver's history it could affect his insurance rates, not yours since he was the one violating the law. Your insurance agent should not be notified not should your premiums be affected since it was your boyfriend that was speeding and ticketed for it.
Since you have insurance on your vehicle, proof of that insurance should have been good enough for the law enforcement officer. You probably should check with your insurance company though if your boyfriend often drives your car to make sure your vehicle is covered when he is operating it. This is especially true if he does not have car insurance on himself.
