Car Insurance Question  I was given a ticket in New Jersey for failure to stop at a stop sign. How much will it cost and will it affect my premiums?

In New Jersey, failure to observe a stop or yield sign is a violation of NJSA 39:4-144 and is assigned 2 points. So your ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign is going to place 2 points upon your NJ driver history record as well as carry a fine.

The penalty or fine amount may differ depending in what jurisdiction you received the citation. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission suggests contacting the Municipal Court where the ticket was issued. You can also look online at the State of New Jersey's Judiciary site for more information regarding your ticket and the penalties connected to it.

As for your insurance, it will depend upon your insurance provider's rating system if this moving violation will affect your premiums or not. If this is your first ticket of any type it may not while if you have other violations then it likely will cause your rates to rise. If your premiums do go up in price you can shop for auto insurance here with us.
