Current South Carolina law requires that at the time a driver's license is issued for the first time and when a driver's license is renewed, drivers must certify on the driver's license application (DL 447) that they are insured by an automobile liability policy.
As you probably are aware the state minimum requirements for SC are $15,000 bodily injury per person, $30,000 bodily injury per accident and $10,000 property damage per accident.
Insurance company guidelines may differ but in general the information you need to provide to an insurance carrier in able to apply for insurance are same no matter what state you are in.
Typically this includes the following items:
- Driver's License Numbers for all drivers
- Social Security Numbers for all drivers (if applicable)
- Credit card/checking account information
You will also need to have answers to questions in these categories:
- General questions
- Drivers/Household Residents
- Violations or Incidents
- Coverage Selection
- Account Setup
