According to the Michigan DMV, which is part of the Secretary of State (SOS) department in MI, each time you are convicted of a traffic violation, you will have to pay certain court fines and costs. In addition, points may be posted to your driver record.
Under Michigan’s point system, each traffic violation has a point value, which is set by law in the Michigan Vehicle Code. Points are placed on your driver record only after you have been convicted or found guilty of or responsible for a civil infraction. Points placed on your driver record remain there for two years from the date of conviction.
The Michigan violation points list states that it is 2 points for a ticket of speeding 10 mph or less over the legal speed limit. The list does not differentiate on if the speeding under 10 mph is on a highway or other roadway within Michigan.
From this SOS information it would appear that you will receive 2 points besides the fine for this ticket. To make certain this is true for your specific ticket try contacting the clerk of the court listed on your citation and/or the DMV to find out if points will be assigned.
