If I am in an accident and I do damage to another car is it the responsibility of my insurance agent to contact the other car that was involved or do they have to contact my insurance to make a claim?

If you are at-fault in an accident and the other party is going to place a claim against your liability policy then it is wise to contact your insurance agent to report the accident and pending claim.

Normally once you have notified your agent he or she gives the claims department the claim information and if they decide to contact the other driver the claims adjuster would do so, not your agent.

Depending upon insurance company guidelines the insurance adjuster assigned to your claim may contact the other party or the insurance company may wait for the person to contact them to place their claim. If the adjuster is the one contacting the other party they will verify the accident information and make certain that the person does want to proceed ahead with placing a claim.
