State laws differ and how their Department of Motor Vehicles will record an out of state ticket conviction and if points will be assessed.
The District of Columbia and 46 other states are part of the Drivers License Compact (DLC). The Drivers License Compact requires member states to report tickets received by motorist back to the state where they are licensed. Also under the DLC, when a state suspends the license of a driver who is from out of state, the state where the motorist received a license to drive will also suspend their license.
The way in which member states will put this Compact into effect differs according to individual state statutes or laws. The states that do NOT take part in the Compact (Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin) may still have their own agreements with other states to exchange information regarding traffic tickets.
We are not aware of a master list showing what states do or do not place points on your license or driving record for violations or tickets received out of state from where a motorist's license was issued. If you want to know about how a specific state deals with out of state tickets try contacting that state's DMV.
