Chapter 171 of the Minnesota state statutes is about having a MN driver's license. Section 171.02 of the Minnesota Statutes states that a person shall not drive a motor vehicle upon a street or highway in this state unless the person has a license valid for the type or class of vehicle being driven.
Every licensee shall have the license in immediate possession at all times when operating a motor vehicle and shall display it upon demand of a peace officer, an authorized representative of the department, or an officer authorized by law to enforce the laws relating to the operation of motor vehicles on public streets and highways.
Statute 171.120 states that a resident or nonresident whose driver's license or right or privilege to operate a motor vehicle in this state has been suspended, revoked, or canceled, shall not operate a motor vehicle in this state under license, permit, or registration certificate issued by any other jurisdiction or otherwise during the suspension, or after the revocation until Minnesota driving privileges are reinstated.
The commissioner may require, before reissuing a license which has been revoked or suspended, that the licensee complete a course of study at an approved driver improvement clinic. When the license is reinstated there will be a reinstatement fee.
Driving without a license in Minnesota is a misdemeanor or may even be considered a gross misdemeanor depending upon the circumstances, such as if you are driving with a canceled or denied driver's license.
The attorney in the jurisdiction in which the violation occurred who is responsible for prosecution of such misdemeanor violations.
