Illinois and Minnesota are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which means the Illinois courts will report to the Minnesota Driver and Vehicles Services (DVS) division of the Department of Public Safety the conviction of this moving violation.

The MN driver's manual states that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) maintains your driving record, which contains information about driving and licensing violations in Minnesota and other states. So it would appear that the Illinois violation conviction will be placed on your MN driving record.

The driver's manual also notes that if you commit a traffic offense in another state that would be grounds for suspension or revocation in Minnesota you may also get your license suspended or revoked in MN, even though the offense occurred out of state.

To the best of our knowledge the Minnesota DPS does not have a so-called point system for driver infractions and improvement. The DPS does keep track of your violations that are placed on your license though and may suspend your license for repeatedly violating traffic laws.

The DPS goes on to say that serious or recurring violations may result in loss of your driving privilege or restrictions on where, when, and what types of vehicle you may drive.
