I am insured and licensed in NJ and think I got flashed by a camera for running a red light in NYC over the weekend. Does this moving violation have a monetary and points penalty? If so what can I expect to pay and how many points?

If you were caught running a red light in New York City by a red light camera you should receive a ticket in the mail explaining about the violation and listing what the fine amount is and how to pay for it.

From the information we have gathered it appears a ticket for getting flashed by the red light camera for running a red light in NYC normally has a fine of $50 - $55 and no NYS DMV points attached to it.

New York and New Jersey are both members of the Drivers License Compact so New York should share this moving violation with the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission. Normally out of state tickets are assigned 2 points according to the New Jersey MVC. You may want to check with the MVC to find out if a red light camera ticket from out of state will be assigned points on your NJ driving record or not.
