I recently got into a car accident, while my friend was trying to teach me how to drive in a parking lot. I am unlicensed and her insurance has no collision coverage. She wants me to pay for all of the damage, but I'm only offering 75% of the costs. She is threatening me with court. Who is really responsible? She was in the car at the time of the accident and gave me permission to drive.

State liability and negligence laws differ but generally if you are the driver you are the one that should be in control of the vehicle and keep it from colliding with other cars or objects and thus will be held responsible.

Since your friend was supposedly teaching you to drive and allowed you to drive her car without a license there might be some liability with her as well. To find out what you may be held liable for in court you will want to seek legal advice from a lawyer that specializes in this type of state law.
