Whether the state will notify you or you need to contact the stateĀ about removing the SR22 depends upon state laws and Department of Motor Vehicles guidelines. There may be some states where the DMV will send notice that you no longer need to maintain the SR-22,+ while other states may not require their DMV to do so.
If the DMV is not required to inform you when your period to carry the SR-22 is over then likely you were told when you started carrying the SR-22 when you would be able to remove it.
I would check with your DMV to find out if your SR-22 time limit is up and if so how to go about removing it. You may just need to speak to your insurance agent about removing it or you may need to provide your insurance agent with documentation from the DMV that it is okay to take the SR-22 off.
In many states when you cancel a SR-22 with your insurance company will need to file a SR-26 to inform the state you terminated the SR-22. This is a form showing the cancellation of SR-22 financial responsibility certificate insurance.
