Is the auto insurance company liable to pay medical bills if you are injured in a wreck that totals your automobile, but you do not carry collision on that automobile?

It would depend upon the coverages you have on your auto insurance policy if your injuries and medical bills would be covered or not. Collision coverage, if you had it, would cover the damages to the vehicle not bodily injuries of the driver or passengers in the car.

For your auto insurance policy to cover medical expenses due to bodily injuries in the accident you would need coverage such as personal injury protection (PIP),Medical Payments, and in some cases Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Liability. If you do not have medical coverages such as these as part of your insurance policy then your insurance company would not be liable for your medical bills.

Your personal health insurance should cover your medical bills.

If another party was at fault for the accident then in many states you could place a claim for your car's damages through their property damage liability coverage and a claim for medical bills through their bodily injury liability coverage.

To find out what coverages you have with your current policy read through the terms of the policy and speak to your insurance agent.
