I got a speeding ticket in West Virginia and I'm from Florida. Is there any way I can take traffic school in either state to get rid of the points?

West Virginia and Florida are both members of the driver's license compact (DLC) so if you are convicted of the speeding ticket in WV then the Florida HSMV should be notified of the ticket.

According to Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Services (HSMV), if you have a FL license and receive a traffic ticket out of state once they receive the citation information it will be added to your driving record. You will receive points on your license, if the violation is a point-accessible violation according to Florida statute 322.27.

Florida law does not allow for any school or program to remove points for a ticket received in another state, so unfortunately you cannot take a traffic school or driving course in FL to get rid of the out of state ticket and associated points.

This means that you would need to ask the West Virginia courts if you can take traffic school there in order to reduce or dismiss the ticket so that the citation information would not be reported to your home state of Florida. The court in which to discuss this with should be listed on your WV traffic ticket. The clerk of the court usually can provide you with the information you need.
