I was at my house and I had just parked my car. Apparently I did not put the e-brake on far enough and my car rolled down and hit something. If I report this claim on my own car will my insurance premium go up? I live in Washington State.

It will depend upon your insurance company's rating system if this accident and any claims associated with it would affect your auto insurance premiums.

According to the Washington State Insurance Commissioner most companies apply a surcharge to drivers who have been involved in an accident or convicted of multiple traffic violations.

The office of the Insurance Commissioner also notes that auto insurance rates are based on a variety of factors. The premium you pay consists of a "base rate" plus or minus amounts reflecting your age, gender, marital status, driving pattern, vehicle type, driving record and claims history. There is a different base rate for each type of car and geographical area. While individual companies may differ in the amounts they assess for each factor, the major rating factors are fairly universal.

So if you are trying to decide about placing a claim for the damage your car sustained when it rolled down from your parking spot and hit something, then speak to your insurance agent to find out if this claim may affect your future premiums.

If your rates will be affected you may want to shop around for low cost car insurance
