Louisiana and Florida are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) and Non Resident Violator Compact (NRVC).
The DLC requires member states to report back to the licensing state of a motorist any convictions for moving violations that the person obtained out of state.
The NRVC requires member states to suspend the driver's license of a motorist who receives a traffic ticket and does not pay the fine or comply with the court issuing the ticket in another legal way.
With the NRVC upon receipt of a report of a failure to comply, from the licensing authority of the issuing jurisdiction, the home jurisdiction shall notify the motorist and initiate a suspension action as hereinafter provided.
Information on Louisiana's participation with the NRVC can be found in the LA Revised Codes (RS) 32:1441 - 1446.
If you choose not to pay the ticket your license should be suspended both in Florida and in your home state of Louisiana until you satisfy the traffic summons.
The Florida HSMV states that out-of-state residents must send the satisfaction and $47.50 reinstatement fee and a letter of residency to:
The Bureau of Driver Improvement P.O. Box 5775 Tallahassee, Florida 32314-5775
Make Check Payable to the Division of Driver Licenses. A clearance letter will be mailed to you.
Instead of letting it go that far it would be better if you pay the ticket before the due date so you do not lose your driving privileges or have to pay these extra reinstatement fees.
