I have Allstate for my car insurance and they want to raise my premiums due to a bad credit score. Do you run credit checks?

You can get started comparison shopping for auto insurance here with us if your current rates are too high. In some states Direct General does not use credit scores for rating. All of our other carriers use some form of an insurance score that may be derived by credit as a rating factor.

Not all insurance carriers check credit when a person purchases auto insurance so you may be able to find one in your area that would not check your credit history for the credit score as part of their rating process if Direct General cannot help you obtain the insurance policy that you need.

The best thing to do is to shop around for insurance and find a company that does not check or use credit history as a rating factor until you are able to build up a better credit rating.

The amount that a credit score can affect your rates in some states is governed by the state's insurance regulator. To find out if your state has regulations regarding auto insurance companies using your credit history as part of the rating process contact this state agency.
