1. I have received 2 tickets both going 79 in a 70 in Florida I have paid for one and am opting to take the driving class for the other. I would like to know how many points will I have on my license if (a)I just pay for the second ticket and not take the class or (b)take the class? 2. How will these ticket effect my insurance? 3. If I receive a ticket from Mississippi will this effect my Florida driving record?

If you do not take traffic school for the second Florida speeding ticket you would receive 6 points in total. Speeding 15 mph or less over the speed limit is worth 3 points on your Florida driving record according to the FL drives manual.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles the benefits that come with taking traffic school for a moving violation, such as speeding include that your insurance rates cannot go up and your policy cannot be cancelled due to this violation, unless it involved a crash where you were at fault.

Another benefit is the one that you are interested in and that is that points are not added to your driver license record and the fine is reduced up to 18%. In Florida, you can only choose this option for moving violations 5 times in a lifetime and cannot have made this same election in the preceding 12 months.

So if you take traffic school for the second ticket it should help keep your rates down compare to if you had 2 speeding tickets on your license. If you have a safe driver discount you likely will lose it by having one or both tickets appear on your Florida driving record.

Rating systems differ from one insurance company to another though so to find out specifically how these tickets would affect your rates with your current insurance carrier you would need to discuss their rating system with your agent.

Yes, if you receive a ticket in Mississippi it would affect your insurance driving record. Florida and Mississippi are both members of the Drivers License Compact, (DLC) meaning that Mississippi courts will inform the FL HSMV if you receive a ticket and are convicted of it.

The HSMV states that if you have a FL license and receive a traffic ticket out of state once they receive the citation information it will be added to your driving record. You will receive points on your license, if the violation is a point-accessible violation according to Florida statute 322.27.

If your rates rise due to the FL or MS moving violations you can get affordable auto insurance here with us.
