Car Insurance Question  What if my car was vandalized, and my comprehensive deductible is $1,000? I know for sure that the damage to my car is more than $1,000. Do I have to pay that $1,000 after the work has been finished on the car, or do I not have to pay that deductible if the damage is more than $1,000?

If your deductible is $1000 you will need to pay this amount as part of your comprehensive claim to repair the vandalism done to your vehicle.

A deductible is the amount of the loss which you, the insured, agree to pay for if you file a claim under your physical damage coverages. Typically, you would be responsible to pay the deductible before benefits from your insurance company are payable.

So for example if the cost for repairs to your vehicle is $1800 then you would be responsible to pay the first $1000 and then the insurance company would be responsible for the $800 above the deductible amount.

To find out when you must pay the $1000 and to whom this must be paid to speak with the claims adjuster from your insurance company that you are working with on your vandalism claim.
