Massachusetts is not part of the multi-state Drivers License Compact like the State of Maryland is and which requires member states to report tickets received by motorists back to the state which the person is licensed in. Though Massachusetts is not a member of this compact, the state of MA does have agreements with other states to exchange this type of moving violation information.
The newly updated MD Motor Vehicle Administration site notes that if you are convicted of a vehicle-related offense in a jurisdiction outside of Maryland, the MVA may assess points. The point values identified in Maryland law for similar offenses determine the number of points that you will be assessed.
Thus you will need to contact the MD MVA to find out if they will assign points to this MA speeding citation if you pay and are thus convicted of the offense. EvenĀ if the offense is not one that they assign points to, it will be placed on your Maryland driving record which your insurance company will see the next time they pull your MVR.
