I am shopping for insurance and need to know what the required insurance for New Jersey is. Minimum preferably so I know where to start.

NJ law requires liability insurance minimums of 15/30/5. These limit amounts stand for $15,000 per injured person for a total of $30,000 for all people hurt in one accident and $5,000 for property damage from one incident. Personal Injury Protection (PIP) of at least $15,000 is also required.

You can buy optional insurance of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for bodily injury caused by an uninsured driver. Collision and comprehensive are other optional coverages that can be purchased in New Jersey for your vehicle.

Auto insurance is mandatory in New Jersey if you drive a vehicle. The type and costs of car insurance coverage can vary depending on the types of insurance coverages that you choose to purchase.

For consumer advice on NJ insurance you can contact the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI).Their site online has a consumer auto insurance buyer's guide.

You can shop for just the minimum New Jersey liability requirements, of bodily injury (BI), property damage (PD) and person injury protection (PIP) or for full coverage, meaning collision and comprehensive as well, here with us. Follow this link for instant car insurance quotes.
