In Kentucky, your driver’s license record is maintained by the Transportation Cabinet, Division of Driver Licensing. This agency keeps track of all traffic citations, accidents, suspensions, reinstatements, and assignments to traffic school. They alone have control of your driving file. Any questions concerning licensing qualifications or your driving record should be directed to this KY state agency.
The KY driver's manual states that convictions of violations remain a part of your driver’s record for a period of five (5) years for an operator’s license and ten (10) years for a commercial driver’s license. It does not specifically mention accidents here though so you may want to contact the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to see if this type of incident is also on your driving record for 5 years or more.
Also for more information you can read the KY Statutes. Section 186.018 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) concerns driving history records of operators. Here it states that for purposes of maintaining driving history records of operators of motor vehicles of the Commonwealth, the files of the Transportation Cabinet shall be used to ascertain the driving history record of each person who is licensed to operate a motor vehicle within the Commonwealth.
Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section [which deals with information on the driving history record of a person under the age of twenty-one (21)], the Transportation Cabinet shall destroy, and shall not maintain, records of moving traffic convictions that are more than five (5) years old. Notwithstanding, for any licensee who now holds, who has applied for, or has ever held a Class A, B, or C license issued pursuant to KRS 281A.170, the cabinet shall keep conviction records indefinitely. This last type of licenses listed are commercial driver’s licenses (CDL).
