I live in Texas, if I do not drive or own a vehicle do I still need to purchase SR-22 insurance, and if so, why?

Many times a SR-22 is required of a motorist after being convicted of certain violations of the law and especially at the time the driver wants to get their license reinstated.

If the state isn't requiring you to purchase an SR22, you don't need to purchase an SR22. Whether you are going to driver or own a car normally does not matter if the state is mandating that you obtain a SR22 as a condition of your license being reinstated. The SR22 is showing that you will have financial responsibility if you do drive.

If you do not own a car and are required to get a SR-22 you should be able to get a non-owner SR-22 policy.

For more information on why you specifically are being required to carry a SR-22 you would need to contact the Texas DPS or other TX agency that has notified you that this financial responsibility form is required of you.
