Section 63-9-17 of the Mississippi code relates to the maintenance of records relating to charged offenses; records and reports of convictions.
Subsection 1 states that every court shall keep a full record of the proceedings of every case in which a person is charged with any violation of law regulating the operation of vehicles on the highways, streets or roads of this state.
Subsection 7 notes that the MS Department of Public Safety shall keep copies of all drivers’ abstracts received in for a period of three (3) years at its main office and they shall be open to public inspection.
From this information gather from the Mississippi motor vehicle laws it would appear that offenses and accidents will be kept on your MS driving record for 3 years. To make certain that this is correct and that the MS Code has not recently been amended or changed with regards to driving records check directly with the Mississippi Department of Safety.
It is the Safety Responsibility Unit of the MS DPS that is responsible for all crash records reported by state, local and municipal agencies throughout Mississippi and for ensuring that drivers who have been involved in a crash in this state are in compliance with financial requirements. These records are entered in the driver record data system for statistical purposes as well as updated in the motor vehicle records. This office also suspends driver licenses, collects reinstatement fees and sells crash records to those individuals involved in the accident.
