It will depend upon states laws, the terms of the insurance policy and guidelines an insurance come has for settlements if you will be compensated for mileage to and from your medical appointments and for the cost for babysitting due to injuries you sustained in an automobile accident.
If you were not at fault in the accident and are placing your claims for your injuries with the at-fault driver's insurance company then you can try to negotiate in the travel miles to your medical/doctor appoints and the expenses you incurred with a babysitter since you were unable to take care of your infant due to the injuries.
Depending upon your state's insurance laws, as well as the terms and limits of the at-fault party's bodily injury (BI) policy, bodily injury damages may include compensation for things such as economic loss, loss of earning capacity, disability, physical impairment, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, inconvenience, etc.
If instead you were at fault and using your own medical payments or first party benefits you would need to discuss with your agent what the terms of your policy allow you to collect on.
If you are living in a no-fault state and thus using your own personal injury protection (PIP) policy then usually you can try and claim and be reimbursed for mileage to medical appointments and the cost of child care. The percentage of these expenses you would be repaid for may vary depending again on state laws and the type of PIP policy you carry.
For example in Florida a typical PIP policy would pay 100 percent of replacement services such as child care, housekeeping or yard work. However your PIP benefits would only pay 80 percent for any mileage that you travel to your medical or doctor's appointments.
For mileage remember to keep a mileage log or see if your insurer has a mileage tracking form that you may submit them to your insurance company so that this expense can be claimed.
In general, you should be made whole for your loss. And these items typically would be a part of compensation for the loss.
