Not having your driver's license in your possession when in an accident normally would not keep your insurance policy from being in effect, thus your policy should still cover you for this incident. Though just to be certain that your particular policy does not have any exclusions or terms that would keep your coverages from taking care of this accident read through your policy and/or discuss the matter with your agent.
The insurance company may need you to show that you have a valid license but that you just did not have it in your vehicle (purse or wallet) at the time of the accident. This may mean allowing an insurance agent or claims adjuster to examine the license.
Also if you were cited for driving without your license or not having it in your possession you may see if the court will dismiss the charge if you can show proof that you have a driver's license and that it was valid at the time of your accident and citation.
Most state traffic courts will give you the opportunity to show up before your court date and produce a driver's license that was valid before the date and time of the original infraction so that the ticket can be dismissed. Some jurisdictions or courts may require fines or administration fees still be paid though.
