What type of contents in Claim Report? What is contained within a claims report?

A claims report may differ a bit from one insurance company to the next however in general a claim report will include the following information:

  • the insured's policy number,
  • date and time of loss,
  • explanation as to what happened,
  • the location of the loss (street, city, and state),
  • police report and activity (including tickets) - if any,
  • year/make/model/VIN of insured's vehicle,
  • description of damage,
  • name of driver (if differs from insured),
  • driver's license number,
  • the other party's contact info (address and phone number),
  • other party's driver's license number, and
  • name of other party's insurance company.

There may be other things included such as witness statements, photos of the scene or of the car's damage, etc depending upon the guidelines of the insurance companies involved in the claims process.

If you have been in an accident and want to know more about your company's claims procedures then contact your agent or claims department. An insurance adjuster investigating an accident would also be able to give you more information.
