I'm a UK citizen who owns a vacation property in Fl. I visit about 4 times a year for between 2-4 weeks at a time. I would like to buy a vehicle to use while I am there. I would like it insured against theft, fire etc whilst I am not there. I have checked your other responses and it seems that most insurers require a FL driver's license. However on the DMV web site it says the license is only valid for the length of the supporting documents that allow visiting the USA. However my maximum stay at any time is 3 months and as soon as I leave for home I have to give up my documents. Thus it would seem that my insurance is not valid when I am not there and also I need to apply for a new Fl license each time I visit. Which takes 2 weeks for delivery by which time I've gone home and its not valid. Can you help?

There should be a specialty insurance provider that would offer you the type of insurance policy that you need. Unfortunately the partners and affiliates we work with do not offer this type of specialty policy.

You will need to contact an independent agent that offers excess and surplus policies for auto insurance to get the type of policy that would provide coverage on your car while you are in Florida and away.

Contacting other UK or British citizens living in Florida may help you find the right insurance provider for your needs. There are forums for Brits in FL and sites such as BritishFlorida.com that discuss issues such as car insurance for UK members who visit or live in Florida.

If others from the UK living in Florida are unable to recommend an insurance carrier that offers what you need you can contact the Florida insurance regulatory body, FL Department of Financial Services. This state agency may be able to give you information on what insurance companies offer the type of policy that need to keep insurance on your vehicle located in Florida.
