States differ on the ways in which a driver can find out the amount of points they have on their license. While some states may allow you to request your driving record online most do not allow you to also view it online since they send out a certified copy in the mail normally.
Many states require an administrative fee to be paid in order to get a copy of your driving record, and thus see the amount of points you have accumulated, so you have to sign up to get your drivers abstract either in person or via mail or through an email / onlineĀ application. In some states though, such as Wisconsin, you can call and find out your DMV point total over the phone through a special DMV phone number.
When you get a copy of your motor vehicle record (MVR) it normally not just your accumulated point total but identifying information about you, lists any licenses that have been issued to you, any convictions you have for traffic offenses and then the aforementioned points put on your record for these offenses. A driving record will also include administrative entries regarding your driving privileges, which will include things such as license suspensions or revocations.
To find out if your state allows you to view your driving record online contact their Department of Motor Vehicles.
