As you are aware Maine requires all motor vehicles to undergo a safety inspection once a year. Per the Maine driver’s manual all motor vehicles bearing a Maine registration must have a current Maine inspection before being operated on any public way. These inspections must be done at an official inspection station once a year.

Vehicles registered in Cumberland County are also required to undergo an emissions test.

Failure to have a current inspection sticker could mean a fine and loss of points on your ME driver’s license.

Normally you can get a safety inspection at many local mechanics and auto repair shops after you make sure the shop is licensed by the state to conduct safety inspections.

If you car is not registered in Maine it is our understanding that you would not be required to obtain an inspection sticker however we would advise you to check with the state of Maine to make certain of what is required and if there are special exceptions or circumstances for you since you are in the military.
