From the information we have found if you have purchased a new car you should keep in the vehicle with you a car dealer's bill of sale dated within 30 days of the purchase date and a valid insurance declaration page to serve as temporary proof of insurance. It is said that you need to be sure to keep the bill of sale and the declaration page in the vehicle at all times until you receive the insurance information card from your insurer.
So it would not appear that there is not a 30 day period in which to get insurance granted to you by the state. You can check with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner to find out for certain though.
If the state of Georgia does not grant any grace period in which to obtain insurance on the vehicle then some insurance providers will insure a new car for a certain amount of time once you purchase it so that you have time to get the car placed on your policy. If your insurance company has guidelines that afforded you certain coverages after you purchased this new car so that you were in fact covered by them when you were cited and your car was impounded for driving without insurance then you should get a document stating this and see if the court will dismiss the ticket for driving without insurance.
