What is the penalty for living in Pennsylvania for 60 days and driving on a Maryland license?

As you mentioned the state of Pennsylvania states that all new residents with out-of-state non-commercial driver's licenses must obtain a PA Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing Pennsylvania residency.

It depends under which part of the PA law this offense would fall as to what the penalty would be. It may fall under section 1571 of the PA Vehicle Code which is titled violations concerning licenses.

Here it states that any person violating any of the provisions of this section is guilty of a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $100. Infractions of this state statute also receive 3 points for a violation concerning a driver's license.

Or not obtaining a PA license within the allotted time period may fall under section 1501, Drivers Required to Be Licensed, of the Vehicle Code.

Here subsection (a) says that no person, except those expressly exempted, shall drive any motor vehicle upon a highway or public property in this Commonwealth unless the person has a driver's license valid under the provisions of this chapter.

Any person violating subsection (a) of 1501 is guilty of a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $200, except that, if the person charged furnishes satisfactory proof of having held a drivers license valid on the last day of the preceding drivers license period and no more than one year has elapsed from the last date for renewal, the fine shall be $25.

You should check with PennDOT to find out for certain what part of PA law not obtaining a PA license within 60 days of moving and becoming a resident of Pennsylvania falls under. If it is neither of the ones listed here then they should be able to tell you more about that state statute and the penalty assigned to that violation.

If you have been cited for driving on your Maryland driver’s license after the time period that in which you had to acquire a PA license then contact the court listed on the ticket to find out the penalty that will be assessed. You may want to ask if you go now to get the PA license if the penalty can be reduced or the ticket dismissed.
