How will my insurance be affected if I take a ticket to court and get a judgement of adjudication withheld?

It will depend upon the laws of your state and your insurance company's guidelines whether a traffic ticket which you take care of through a judgment of adjudication withheld by the court will affect your insurance rates or not.

For example in Florida if you received a ticket for moving violation in Florida and elected to attend traffic school instead of getting points put on your driving record this can be known as withheld adjudication or adjudication of guilt withheld.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles the benefits that come with this choice is that your insurance rates cannot go up and your policy cannot be cancelled due to this violation if you choose this method in which to take care of it, unless you were involved a crash where you were at fault.

Be aware that it may not increase your rates in Florida, but it still can remove any discounts (like a safe driver discount) you were entitled to or receiving.

If you are trying to receive a judgment of adjudication withheld in a state other than Florida then check with the court and/or DMV to find out if auto insurance providers are permitted to raise your rates after this type of plea. Your state's insurance regulator may also be able to advise you.

What To Do After Receiving A Traffic Ticket is an article that you can read in our Learning Center that discusses what generally happens after you receive a ticket that is placed on your driving record.
