I have a G1 driver's license and I got 5 tickets at the same time for driving alone, entering an one way, driving after midnight, etc. The officer just gave the tickets and said nothing about the suspension of my driver's license or anything like that. Are there chances of my driver's license being suspended?

Yes, it is likely that your G1 driver's license will be suspended due to driving against the restrictions placed on your novice, graduated license and also being ticketed for other traffic offenses.

In Ontario, Canada if the police stop you for any reason, the officer checking your licence will see that you are a G1 driver and know the restrictions related to having this type of license. When you have a G1 licence, there are 6 conditions you must follow. These restrictions include:

  • maintaining a zero blood alcohol level while driving;
  • be accompanied by a fully licensed driver, who has at least 4 years driving experience, and they must have a blood alcohol level of less than .05 percent, in case they need to over as driver;
  • have only the accompanying driver in the front seat;
  • limit the number of other passengers to the number of working seat belts;
  • refrain from driving on Ontario's 400 series or high speed expressways;
  • refrain from driving between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

If you are charged with and convicted of breaking any of the conditions, your licence will be suspended for 30 days according to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in Ontario.

It appears that you also were cited for offenses besides the ones for breaking the conditions of your license so you will need to find out what the penalties are for these violations, such as entering a one way, and the amount of points associated with each offense.

The MTO notes that as a Class G1, G2, M1 or M2 driver, if you get two or more demerit points, you will be sent a warning letter. At six points, you may have to go to an interview to discuss your record and give reasons why your licence should not be suspended. If you do not attend the interview, your licence may be suspended.

At nine points, your licence will be suspended for 60 days from the date you surrender it to the Ministry of Transportation. You can lose your licence for up to two years if you fail to surrender your licence

After the suspension, the number of points on your record will be reduced to four. Any additional points could again bring you to the interview level. If you reach nine points again, your licence can be suspended for six months from the date you surrender it to the Ministry of Transportation.

To find out the exact penalties you will be facing against yourself and your driver's license then check with the court listed on your multiple citations and / or the MTO.
