According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV) with a Learner’s License (permit) Privileges and Requirements include:
- Drivers must always have a licensed driver 21 years of age or older in the closest seat to the right of the driver.
- For the first three months after receiving a Learner’s License, driving is limited to daylight hours only.
- After three months, hours are extended to 10 pm.
The HSMV states specifically that no person may drive alone with a Learner’s License – regardless of age. So there is also not exception for driving to school or to work.
Once you move up to an Operators license you will be able to drive to school as long as the schooling or school activities take place during the hours a teen is permitted to drive during. To earn an Operator’s License in Florida, teens must be at least 16 years old AND have held a learner’s license for at least one year without any traffic convictions.
Once teens obtain an Operator’s License their driving privileges are based on their age.
