The Driver Control section of the Division of Motor Vehicles for Kansas maintains driving records and processes changes to driving privileges such as restrictions, suspensions, revoked licenses and reinstated licenses. They do not mention violation points being assigned for moving violation convictions nor does the KS driver's manual.
From the best of our knowledge Kansas does not use a point system. There are specific violations that will result in the loss of your license, however. For example Kansas law (K.S.A. 8-255) notes that conviction of three moving violations within a twelve month period can cause your license to be suspended.
Also in accordance with the provisions of K.S.A. 8-254 your driving privileges may be revoked if you are convicted of:
- Vehicular homicide resulting from the operation of motor vehicle;
- Failure to stop and render aid as required under the laws of this state in the event of a motor vehicle accident resulting in the death or personal injury of another;
- Reckless driving;
- Any felony in the commission of which a motor vehicle is used;
- Attempting to elude a police officer;
- Aggravated vehicle homicide;
- Vehicle battery.
If Kansas has started a point system then you would need to contact the KS DMV to see how many points you are allowed on your license before it is a problem and if there is a way to remove them.
While we are not aware of a traffic school you could take for this issue, there is an Accident Prevention Course that you can take to receive an insurance discount. Some companies offer this driver improvement class online. If you are interested in this type of course then you can contact the Kansas Department of Insurance.
