The length of time it can take for a traffic violation to appear on your driving vary from state to state and even from one jurisdiction to another. First you will need to be convicted of the infraction and then the court will process that conviction and penalties associated with it and inform the Department of Motor Vehicles (or like agency for your state).
How long the process takes for the court to inform the DMV can be a matter of days or up to a month or so depending upon the procedures and how your area exchanges this information. If the information is coming from out of state then we have seen it take up to several months for the traffic violation conviction to show up on a person's driving record in their home state. To find out how quickly your state places traffic tickets or accidents on your record contact your local DMV for specifics.
We have not heard of a defensive driving or driver improvement class you can take to clear an accident off of your driving record. In general these classes are used to remove points or get traffic tickets dismissed however you can contact your DMV to see if your state allows you to take traffic school to remove an accident.
If your driving record is causing your insurance rates to rise with your current insurance provider you should shop around for lower rates. You can start shopping here with us for free auto insurance quotes.
