The Florida no-fault law sunset as of October 1, 2007 so Personal Injury Protection is no longer required until January 1, 2008 when the new no-fault law goes into affect. Property damage liability with limits of at least $10,000 is still required though during this time period.
There will be no requirement for drivers to have PIP between October 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007, but many companies will require Non_Statutory PIP. Drivers will still be required to carry Property Damage Liability and it is strongly recommended to carry Bodily Injury Liability while Florida is a tort state. If you are in an accident and all parties have PIP, then it is handled under the No-Fault rules. In the interim, if there's an accident and any driver involved does not have coverage, there will be the possibility of a lawsuit to determine who is at fault to determine who will pay damages. That is where Bodily Injury Liability, Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Medical Payments/Expense would be necessary.
As for January 1, 2008 both PIP and Property Damage liability will once again be required instead of just PD that is the only coverage mandated by the state in the interim when the no-fault law sunset and the new no-fault law starts up.
