Car Insurance Question  In the state of Florida can a property manager force you to get renters insurance in order to renew a lease?

Yes, normally a landlord can require you as part of your lease or renters agreement to obtain renter's insurance. Even if this was not required of you previously usually with a lease renewal they can change the terms of your lease which you can decide then if you want to renew or not and then move.

We have read many times that Florida residents may be required by their landlords to carry renters insurance. This is usually done by the landlord because Florida Renters Insurance not only protects your belongings and investment in them, it also covers any damage you might do to an apartment or house while renting it. A lease agreement may require you to carry a specific amount of coverage on your policy.

If you have questions about a lease agreement or the renewal of ones in which the terms have changed you can contact a lawyer to go over the paperwork with you. The Florida insurance regulator can help you understand about renters insurance and the Attorney General for FL may be able to give you consumer advice on your situation.
