I was in a car accident this morning, the person who hit me does not have any insurance. Am I responsible for my own $500 deductible? How can I get the other driver to take care of that?

Yes, if you are placing a claim against your own collision coverage then the deductible is normally due whether or not you were at fault or not. If you want to see if you can get the other driver to pay you can see if you can get them to personally pay you or you may need to take them to court and get a judgment against them for the deductible amount.

Before placing a lawsuit against the at-fault uninsured motorist you can speak with your agent or the insurance adjuster they assign to your claim to see if your insurance company plans to subrogate with the at fault party. If they do you can see if they will try to also recover your deductible amount for you as part of the process.
