No, that is not true that the minimum age for a G1 is changing from 16 to 18 to the best of our knowledge. There is a rumor that goes around from time to time stating that Ontario is going to raise the age requirements for obtaining a drivers license however according to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for Ontario, Canada this is not true.

The MOT states that they have reviewed all Ontario laws that set a minimum age requirement. After this review, the government has decided to maintain 16 years as the minimum legal age driving. Ontario is not planning on raising or lowering age at which an individual can obtain a driver's license.

The Ministry of Transportation agrees that the average 16 year-old has sufficient maturity and judgment to handle the responsibility of driving. They were concerned by the number of collisions involving young people and inexperienced drivers and that is why the Graduated Licensing System was introduced in 1994.
