I was found at-fault in an accident over 5 years ago in California. I received no citations nor was I guilty of any infractions. I just looked at my California Driving Record and the accident is still listed on the report. Why? May I request it to be removed?

The California Department of Motor Vehicles notes that accidents are reported for 3 years from the accident date. If you are found to be at fault, the accident normally counts as 1 point.

The CA DMV also states that if an accident was reported by law enforcement and the record contains a commercial vehicle or hazardous materials indicator, the accident will be reported for 10 years from the accident date.

So if you were in a personal car then the reporting time for the accident on your driving record is normally 3 years in California so if it has now been 5 years you should contact the CA DMV to see why the accident has not yet been removed from your history and what you would need to do in order to get it taken off.
