I am getting married and moving to Rhode Island. I have had my driver's license in Massachusetts for about 8 years and I have never had any moving violations or accidents. Do insurance companies, you guys, judge my insurance quote by my MA insurance or do I do I need to start fresh like I am a new driver because I am obtaining my license in new state?

Insurance companies, including those that CarInsurance.com works with, will base your Rhode Island car insurance quotes on a variety of factors, including your Massachusetts driving record.

Your insurance quote will not be dictated by your Massachusetts insurance rates but your MA driving record will be taken into account since will only recently be obtaining a Rhode Island driver's license and thus not have much of a RI driving record for insurance providers to use as a rating factor. So insurance carriers will pull both your RI driver's license's history, if you have already applied and received it when you request the quote, and your Massachusetts driving record since that is where you were previously licensed for the past 8 years.

Your MA motor vehicle record (MVR) since it has a longer history will given an insurer more of a picture of your risk as a driver since you were licensed there for a longer period of time. If you record is clean, without violation convictions or accidents, then it should help you obtain a better rate.
