This does not appear to be a careless driving or reckless operation ticket but an Ohio speeding ticket. Under the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) section 4511.21 is titled Speed limits - assured clear distance.
Under this section of Ohio law it states that no person shall operate a motor vehicle, trackless trolley, or streetcar at a speed greater or less than is reasonable or proper, having due regard to the traffic, surface, and width of the street or highway and any other conditions, and no person shall drive any motor vehicle, trackless trolley, or streetcar in and upon any street or highway at a greater speed than will permit the person to bring it to a stop within the assured clear distance ahead.
It also notes that points shall be assessed for violation of a limitation under division (D) of this section in accordance with section 4510.036 of the Revised Code.
Under 4510.036 gives the points assessed for the violation of any law or ordinance pertaining to speed. Under subsection (a) it states that when the speed exceeds the lawful speed limit by thirty miles per hour or more 4 points will be assessed.
Since it would appear that you would have a probationary license in Ohio since you are under 17 you should be aware that a new law affecting your license was signed into law January 4, 007. This legislation places certain restrictions on the operation of motor vehicles by probationary license holders and temporary instruction permit holders who are less than 18 years of age. The law went into effect Friday, April 6, 2007.
One part of these new laws is that if a probationary driver license holder under the age of 17 is convicted of having committed one moving violation during the first six months of having a driver's license, the person must be accompanied by a parent or guardian whenever operating a motor vehicle during the six-month period commencing on the date on which the person is convicted of or pleads guilty to the moving violation or until the person turns 17.
The registrar of motor vehicles of Ohio will automatically suspend for 90 days the probationary license of any person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to two moving violations. All driving privileges will be denied for 3 moving violations. As you know those with probationary licenses are minors like yourself under the age of 18.
To find out of the DI listed after the ORC notation on your ticket stands for anything significant you can contact the court listed on your citation. The clerk of the court may also be able to advise you on what your penalties (fine, etc) may be as a 16 year old driver that was found to be driving over 30 mph over the posted speed limit. The Ohio BMV may also be able to give you information on what may happen to your license.
