I am moving to California from Michigan. Do I have to report my tickets from Michigan when applying for California auto insurance?

Yes, if the insurance company is requesting information going back a certain number of years and during this time frame you received tickets in Michigan, and were convicted of these violations, then you would need to include them on your application for California car insurance.

If you have recently moved from Michigan to California then the insurance company will pull your driving record for both states since the CA MVR does not go that far back and your MI record will show them more of your driving history for the past several years for them to rate on.

So if you neglect to include these violations that are on your MI driving record and your insurance company sees them after pulling your Michigan MVR then your rates may increase due to this new information about your driving history that they find out. Thus to get a more accurate rate quote for your California auto insurance you should include these tickets you were convicted of in MI to the insurance company when applying for a policy.
