Car Insurance Question  I live in Delaware and just received a speeding ticket in Maryland. The ticket is 5 points, will they be transferred and if so how many points it will be in Delaware?

Both Maryland and Delaware are members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which means that if you are found guilty of this speeding citation and convicted of the charge then the MD courts will inform the DE Division of Motor Vehicles about this violation.

TheĀ DE Division of Motor Vehicles states that they include on your DE driving record all convictions, even those committed in other states. The representative of the Delaware DMV that we contacted stated that yes; they do receive in all out of state ticket information and then place the out of state violation on your record and assign it points.

Speeding violations in DE are assessed between 1 and 5 points depending upon how many MPH he was cited for going. In Maryland 5 points are assigned for driving 30 mph or more over the posted speed limit so it would appear that is what you were cited for doing.

In Delaware it is 5 points for speeding 20 mph over the posted limit plus the DE DMV notes that a driver could face additional penalties such as license suspension. You would need to check with the DE DMV to see if this may be a possible outcome with your situation since the ticket was received out of state.
