Alabama Department of Revenue states that Alabama law does not provide for a minimum age requirement to own a vehicle so if there is no age restriction on owning or registering a car then their should not be one for obtaining insurance.
Even without a state law restricting you from buying insurance you are likely to have extra steps to take in order to obtain auto insurance if you are under 18 and thus still considered a minor. Normally for registration, financing and insurance contracts or legal documents will be signed and if you are a minor then usually they will require you to have a parent or guardian sign on the forms with you.
Insurance company guidelines can differ for a young driver so you may need to shop around for coverage but should be able to obtain Alabama auto insurance for a vehicle you own at age 18.
