Car Insurance Question  Does Texas have new insurance laws that went into effect in 2008?

Yes, Texas insurance laws changed as of April 1, 2008.

Before April 1, 2008 Texas minimum insurance law required minimum liability limits of $20,000 per injured person, up to a total of $40,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $15,000 for property damage. 20/40/15 coverage is how it was referred to.

The Texas Legislature amended the law and increased the minimum liability limits to $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage. This is considered 25/50/25 coverage.

After April 1, 2008, when you purchases or renew your TX automobile insurance policy you will need to meet the new minimum liability limits.

In addition, Texas has implemented a new technology program that will allow law enforcement officers and designated state users to verify whether a person has car insurance immediately. The Texas Financial Responsibility Verification Program (FVRP) is a project developed by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR).

car insurance commentsYour answer was right on with what my insurance company told me. Too bad the state cares so little about its people that they never even made this information public. Just another way to screw the people. Auto insurance is one of the biggest scams to begin with.
